Since this is a short week, we will not have Reading Street Instruction. We will be learning about Thanksgiving and the Pilgrims. As far as literacy HW, students will have a reading response log that will be due Monday, November, 26. Complete 1 question a night. All questions must be completed.
There may also be a question sheet that goes home if they did not finish in class. Tonight, they have to finish the Mayflower questions.
Math
We are starting Chapter 3. There will be HW Monday night and Tuesday.
Enjoy your Thanksgiving.

We will also have our first Unit Benchmark test. We will be discussing the results of this test at conferences in November.

Daily Routines
Students have been very busy this week learning procedures for Reading Street and Math. The pace is a little different from previous years, but they seem to be adjusting well. Next week we will continue working through our routines. I am sure they will feel like experts in no time.

Monday's HW
Hi Families,
Today was a very busy day. We are trying to get into a new routine for Reading Street and time just slipped away from us. We unfortunately did not learn all of our new routines and did not get to all of our assignments.
Every student has spelling HW. If you have questions regarding the HW, please email or write a note.
Some students also got their weekly fluency passage "Fresh Reads" to start practicing. All the other students will get their "Fresh Reads" tomorrow. This will normally come home on Monday. I apologize for the confusion and delay.
Thank you for your continued patience as we learn new routines and new procedures. Everyone is trying their best to follow all the expectations.

What A Great Day!
What a wonderful day this was. I am very pleased with my well behaved fourth graders. Every student was respectful and followed each of my directions. Granted they all had their first day jitters, but they were relieved to know I had them too.
I look forward to tomorrow.
Look for the planners to go home tomorrow - they are in!

First Day of School
Our first day of school is Tuesday, September 4, 2012. I am looking forward to seeing all those eager faces.
Thank you to everyone who attended Open House. It was a very successful evening. Remember to return your first day envelope and purple communication sheet.
To conserve paper, I am just going to post the family letter on the blog. I will show the letter to the class and encourage them to share this with you. Please see the heading tab for the first day letter.
This is a picture of my first day of Kindergarten. What is your first day of school memory? Please take a moment to comment on your first day of school memory. I think the kids will enjoy reading them.

Weather Unit - Wind Socks
Mrs. Marcotte's class recently started recording weather data. Tuesday we made wind socks to compare our estimated wind speed with the wind speed reported on a local weather station. The student really enjoyed making the comparisons and observations. The gusts of wind were a big hit!
